Sun, my friend the Sun!
There are people who love to be exposed to the sunlight, but there are those who do not have another option than to spend time under it, either at work or while practicing sports.
And no one better than Torben Grael, a Brazilian yachtsman, six times world champion in Sailing, and owner of five Olympic medals, including two gold ones, to talk about the Sun, one of the greatest “villains” for the sailors because they are exposed to it during their activities. As you can see in the video he sent to our blog “Sport & Health”.
Thanks, Torben!
Do you also have the feeling that every year the planet is getting warmer, and the Sun less tolerable? This is exactly what is happening. Climate changes are consequences of global warming. (a real complex subject).
Well, let’s continue talking about the Sun, which concerns us all. The damages caused by UVA and UVB rays are not always reversible. We should always pay attention to skin care!
According to dermatologist Dr. Alexandre Filippo, a continuous and prolonged Sun exposure can bring two major problems: premature aging and skin cancer, which can vary from individual to individual, depending on the skin type of each person.
The lighter your skin is, more concerned you should be. The best thing to do is to use a sunscreen lotion daily and, if possible, those manufactured for sports, reapplying it every two hours.
You can also choose to innovate and use clothing with UV protection, and we still have the possibility of ingesting oral antioxidants, the so-called “oral sunscreen,” made to protect our cells against the release of free radicals, compounds that damage the cellular DNA.
To help you buy the ideal sunscreen, here is a tip: UVB protection factor from 30 to 60, the gain in protection is only 3%. And in relation to UVA rays, those can not be measured, because they penetrate deep into the skin. Therefore, the higher the UVA and UVB protection, the better.
So stay tuned; if you notice new spots on your skin, sores that do not heal easily, immediately seek a dermatologist advice. If you have any questions, please send a message to the partner of our blog, “Sport & Health,” Dr. Alexander Filippo.
Be sure to take care of your skin and enjoy the Sun!
