It is noticeable that every year we suffer more with the high temperatures. And then I ask: are we prepared for this heat? Is our skin is protected?
That’s the reason I decided to write about skin cancer. The World Health Organization recently issued a statement estimating for Brazil, in 2016, the occurrence of more than 80,000 new cases of skin cancer type nonmelanoma (which originates in melanocytes, the cells that produce melanin) in men and in almost 95,000 women. That represents 95% of the cases. And yet, in the year 2030, there will be 27 million people with the disease, causing 17 million deaths.
According to Dr. Alexander Fillipo, Dermatologist and partner of our Blog Sport & Health, “The main cause of it is the sun and the excessive exposure to it, but there is also the genetic factor, as well as the type of skin associated with cancer.”
We must pay close attention to our skin, being alert to any different signals such as stain that became bigger, changed the color and shape. This should be examined by a dermatologist. See the testimony of an athlete, Patricia Freitas, a Windsurfing RS:X Class, gold medalist in the Pan American Games in Toronto in 2015.
And for those who have skin-moles, or that spot that does not stop growing, have a follow up with the doctor. It is important to know that the cancer at an early stage has no symptoms, or is “silent”. It only begins to show some symptoms in the advanced stage.
Dr. Alexander Fillipo explains that “melanoma is the cancer that can kill, and needs a more intense treatment, but will depend on the stage at which this cancer was removed, and the cases detected in the early stages, the chances of cure are 100%.
We need to adopt some simple measures, such as the use of sunscreen, even on cold and cloudy days. And in case of being exposed to a lot of heat and hot sun, do not forget to reapply it every hour, especially if you are sweating a lot, and also at the beach or pool.
A tip for those who practice physical activities: search for specific protectors for sports, clothing with UV protection, and also use oral antioxidants, considered oral sunscreens. Learn more about oral Sunscreens:

As we have seen on the tip of the super windsurf athlete Patricia Freitas, pay attention to the body, the skin, the changes we suffer over time and, in doubt, just consult a dermatologist.
Let’s help reduce the cases of skin cancer. And remember that simple measures can make all the difference. Always remember to have a sunscreen in your bag, at home, at work and do not forget the kids!
No Skin Cancer! Let it go!
Big kiss!
